Pacific Sun
P&O Cruises has recently named Brisbane as the new, permanent home for the Pacific Sun. A welcome relocation from Sydney. The 9 deck, 47,000 gross tonnes Pacific Sun has a passenger capacity of 1900 passengers and was built in 1986. Pacific Sun arrival in Queensland is expected to be a boost to tourism. Cruising has in the past decade increased from a $15 million dollar industry in Australia to one now worth over $130 million. Portside Wharf at Hamilton will be the embarking point for passengers with cruises departing every seven to ten days. One such cruise departed for a jaunt up the Queensland coast on Saturday to return again this weekend. The ship is the sister vessel to the Pacific Sky on which Dianne Brimble died in September 2002.
