Hale Street
The Stop The Hale Street Bridge Alliance has been campaigning against the crossing, saying it will create more traffic problems as well as health and safety issues. Their response is to get people out of cars and spend the money to build a public transport network. Lord Mayor Campbell Newman has dismissed these concerns indicating the bridge will address Brisbane traffic issues. Public response to the development closes tomororrow, with the results known in a few weeks.

Nobody Smokes Here Anymore
Was out over the weekend for a birthday celebrateion and for the first time really noticed the effect of the non smoking laws that have been in place since July 1. Next day I certainly felt and smelt fresher. Already a non smoker this of cause is a huge personal benefit to have not been breathing second hand smoke. Can only imagine how much the bar staff much appreciate the change.

23 Annual Marbles Championship
At school I remember seeing a few playing and my dad tells me he played but until I discovered the Australian National Marbles Championship at the Caxton I had never played before. This year marks the 23rd annual event so make sure you get your entry form in and make your way to Caxton Street this Sunday. Surely it is the most important sporting event of the year.

Worlds Greatest Grill
Fire up the barbie and help the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland raise vital funds for patients and their families living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other related blood disorders. As if we need an excuse to wheel the barbie out, but here is an even better one. And if you do not want to make a mess at your place check out the Worlds Greatest Grill website to find a community event. They are on around Brisbane and across the state. Could not agree with the Leukaemia Foundation, there has never been a better reason to have a barbeque… |
