Springfield Central

As SEQ continues to grow, so does the requirement for new suburbs. Friday marks the official introduction of another new suburb, Springfield Central.

Natural Resources and Water Minister Craig Wallace said Springfield Central would be created from the existing suburb of Springfield Lakes.

The boundaries of Springfield Lakes and Spring Mountain will be adjusted as part of the change.

Springfield Central will include the commercial hub of the Springfield development and will be home to the Orion Shopping Centre, University of Southern Queensland, Springfield Tower and other future commercial businesses.

And they are racing…well maybe in 08

Racing in Queensland has been postponed until possibly 2008 following discovery of Equine Influenza in Hendra and Deagon stables.

Queensland Racing has moved to further vaccinate horses in areas around Brisbane to minimise further spread.

One of the impacts of vacination is the animals need to be rested which obviously means no competition or training.

Racing is one of the top ten industries in Australia and the flow on impact to the Queensland and particular Brisbane economy may be considerable as the period without race days increases.

27 Becomes 1

Imaging selling your house, packing up your son at the age of 14 and moving to the other side of the globe, to live a caravan. All on the premise of promise he has shown and you hope may continue.

This is exactly what Casey Stoner parents did. Seven years ago the overnight success was born.

It has taken stints in the British and Spanish 125 motorcycle championships before progression to MotoGP a few years ago.

Finally on a quality, competitive ride, Stoner has dominated in 2007.

At the Japanese GP yesterday Stoner wrapped up the World Championship with three rounds still to run.

Stoner incredibly is still on 21 years of age making him the second youngest winner of the premier class.

The Australian motorcycle GP at Philip Island in three weeks will be a celebration.

Stoner, Stoner, Stoner.

Rugby Heaven

If you are not an avid follower of “the game they play in heaven” then the fact the Wallabies are in France for the World Cup will probably be lost on you.

Rugby fans are proabably easily identified. They are the ones with bags under the eyes from a distinct lack of sleep. Technology improvements may have led to a limitation of afrorementioned bags with games recorded for civilised viewing times.

The point being made is, fans want the latest, most comprehensive news. Fairfax has updated the Rugby Heaven website in time for France 2007.

And incase you are wondering, the Wallabies next game is tonight against Fiji. Kickoff is 10.30pm.

2HRS from Home

Reading Brisbane intends to do a series of articles related to what is availabe in the landscape within a 2 hour drive from Brisbane.

The theme will predominately be national parks, but heritage items will also be on the agenda.

Although there are numerous books that attempt to cover parks, they are often Australia or state wide versions and therefore too limited in the content.

The idea is to include an idea of the facilities in each location, access (such as dirt roads) and if possibly times that might be best.

As a teaser, the image below is from Spicers Gap.

Spicers Gap is near Boonah. This particular outlook is accessed via 10km of dirt road over a steep climb. The last 2km is rough and rocky but can be driven, with caution, in a 2wd car.

Worth the trip we say.

As the articles progress, the idea is to include a desciption and where possible a map of the locations.
