Pink Ribbon
Breast cancer is the most common cause of Cancer death in Australian women with almost 1 in 11 being diagnosed in their lifetime. While the risk factor is increased with age and family history, the cause is unknown. Money raised supports patients and families impacted by breast cancer as well as funding research. Today is the day. Show your support, purchase and wear a pink ribbon.

300 Million
According to the US Census Bureau last week the population passed 300 million. It has only taken since 1967 for the population to increase by the last 100 million. This milestone puts the Australian population at around 7 percent. And you thought it was getting busy in south east Queensland!

Free Hugs
So it was not shot in Brisbane, but at least it was Australia, in and around Pitt Street mall and Martin Place. This is the kind of thing that made You Tube the two billion dollar atraction for Google. Adverts to follow.

Ironic Indy Timing
Is it just me, or do others find irony in the circus of Lexmark Indy 300 is being held this weekend on the Gold Coast. While Brisbane continues at the pace of a snail forced by the closure of ramps and part of the south east freeway, cars practice down public Gold Coast streets at hundreds of kilometres per hour. One only hopes the traffic woes affecting Brisbane does not translate into a drop in patronage to the event. And while we are all wishing it would rain, for the event at least I hope it stays away stopping a boring pace car lead procession.
Brizband School Challenge
Brisbane City Council is hosting 10 of Brisbane high school bands at River Stage in the Botanical Gardens on Sunday. Its a battle of the bands style of event which should prove interesting viewing in this great location. Best of all Brizband is a free event!
If you plan on attending, we suggest the only way to get there is public transport or to walk.

Business Impact
Now that Brisbane CBD workers seem to be to some extent accomodating the traffic problems the concern may need to re-focus on business. The cost to drawn out access to areas often has considerable long term effect. Following the Newcastle earthquake CBD business was severly damaged, being replaced by major suburban shopping centres. Obviously the two events cannot be compared as 14 people were killed in Newcastle, over 10 000 buildings damaged with 300 needing to be completely replaced. With major shopping and business centres already in existence around Brisbane, can the CBD afford such an interruption? |
