A380 Takes Off
Singapore Airlines first commercial A380 flight departed Singapore this morning bound Sydney. Sydney and certainly too the passengers on board, was to be treated with a 700m harbour flyover before turning past the bridge to land. The weather in NSW capital today is unfortunately raining with low clouds so the flyover may be abandoned. Passengers paid up to almost AUD$125,000 for the privilege of being on this first flight. Seats were auctioned on eBay with all proceeds to charity. Qantas has orders for 12 with options over an additional 10 of the super jumbo. Delays related to wiring installation difficulties means the release has been delayed by almost two years. Qantas expect to have four A380 aircraft by the end of 2008 and seven by mid-2009. These are expected to predominately be used on the lucrative routes to the USA.

Nuclear Becomes an Election Issue
Kevin Rudd is turning up the heat in the election noting the Liberal plans for up to 25 nuclear power stations across the country. Questions of cause have been asked in response to Rudd opposition to the plans on alternative, clean energy for Australia. Pushed Mr Rudd still will not commit to clean coal, preferring options such as wind and solar. Interestingly some of the Liberal party members are back-peddling their support. Member for Herbert Peter Lindsay today on an ABC news report denied wanting nuclear power for Townsville. Mr Lindsay memory unfortunately does not match published reports including Townsville Bulletin, p9, 23/8/07 where Mr Lindsay “Its a silly proposition to rule it (nuclear energy) out now”. Also in Townsville Bulletin, p22, 3/3/07 “Labor’s policy to rule out a major potential solution to global warming is short-sighted and cynical,” Mr Lindsay said. And finally during WIN News on 9/2/07 “Nuclear energy is the only viable baseload form of energy thats available.”

Bill Flys South
The William Webb Ellis trophy, awarded to the winner of the Rugby World Cup, which after the Sunday morning match Brisbane local time was in 2007 awarded to South Africa. The boot ruled again with Percy Montgomery kicking the South Africans to victory over England with a 15-6 scoreline. England golden boy Johnny Wilkinson had a less than perfect kicking game. South Africa now join Australia as the only two nations to have won the cup twice. Early in the competition it appears that southern hemisphere rugby was not up to the standard of that played by the european teams. Strong contenders Australia as well as New Zealand were prematurely exited from the competition. While its all over for another year as far as viewers are concerned, Australian rugby is now in the rebuild phase firstly for the domestic, Super 14 league and then Wallabies. Strong local sides of cause mean a strong Wallabies.

Double Oh Kevin
For all the electioneering currently underway its interesting to take a small technical look at website things. Kevin07.com was registered back in March this year with DomainPeople.com. They are a Canadian company. Hosting also appears to be offshore with Verizon, this time a US company. One would think with the majority of traffic to the site coming from Australia, and with a good number of quality Australian hosting companies, it would be hosted here. Will there be change to the “Buy Australian” campaign if Labour gets up at the election or was it simply the current strong Aussie dollar that convinced the backend to be configued this way. Kevin07.com.au was registered with an Australian company, IntaServe. |
