Wakeboard Tours Brisbane

Yesterday Southbank hosted the best Australian and international pro wakeboarders for the 2008 Air Nautiques Australian Pro Tour of Wakeboarding (APTW).

This is the premier contest series for wakeboarding in the Southern Hemisphere.

Professional riders battled it out showing off their in and above water trick skills for the crowd lining the river.

Points were awarded for creativity, accumulating points across four legs of the adrenalin-charged 2008 tour, in the hope of being crowned APTW Champion.

The competition hosts more than 180 pro boarders from six countries competing for total prizes of $50,000.

Political Idealism

Berge Der Sarkissian, the founder of Senator Online is a political idealist. There certainly is nothing wrong with that.

The FAQs on Senator Online show how in theory it could work. That is, if a significant percentage of the Australian population were not ambivalent to the operations of politics in the country.

Reading Brisbane commends Berge for putting his ideas in place. That surely is the first step rather than so many before simply talking about it, he has acted.

One can only hope there is at least on Senator elected in the federal election next weekend aligned to Senator Online. From there is the policies in place for the newly elected Senator are enacted as stated Australians will be able to see an alternative to lobbying their local member or simply taking the pot shot every four years.

For more information visit Senator Online. The FAQ link makes for interesting reading.

Ben Peake is the Queensland candidate.

Steve Irwin Day

Another year on and the interest, excitement as well as te passion regaring Steve Irwin has not waned, for primary school children in particular.

Across the city there were iniform free days, substitued for khaki.

Even the Christmas catalogues continually filling the mailbox each day are still filled with Irwin toys.

With the majority of schools were taking a gold coin in return for not wearing uniforms, with all proceeds to Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors, Steve Irwin legacy regarding his environmental passion is allowed to live on.

For more information see the Steve Irwin Day website.

Fixed Cameras

Not that anyone would be speeding as Speed Kills.

Locations of the first fixed speed cameras in Queensland are all in south-east Queensland.

Police have said that these locations have been chosen specifically due to the fact that they are not safe locations to have police, or police in vehicles operating the mobile cameras.

The first of three trial fixed speed cameras will be positioned:
* Tarragindi off-ramp (M1) on Brisbane’s Southside
* Bruce Highway at Burpengary
* east-side of the Story Bridge targeting vehicles traveling both directions

As always drive carefully.

Halloween at Manly

Halloween is traditionally a festival that originated from the Pagan festival Samhain.

This was celebrated among the Celts of Ireland. Immigrants transported the tradition to North America and a holiday is now celebrated.

Cultural traditions believe that Halloween is one of the liminal times of the year when spirits make contact with the physical world, and when magic is most potent.

Dressing up is so the evil spirits cannot determine good from evil and leave all alone.

Manly Harbour Village is holding a Halloween Street Party tonight.

A street parade at dusk will be followed by ‘Movies in the Park’ showing the animated version of ‘Haunted House’ rated G.

Entry is a $2 donation.
